The Uptown Greenville site (link) has updated its calendar, marking something called “Umbrella Markets” every Saturday of the month of July. Sounds like a merchants’ open-air market may finally be coming to the Uptown area, and it’s going to be great! Uptown Greenville has needed something like this for quite some time, with many residents unaware of what’s available as far as wares and produce in the area. Count me in!

The city put on the annual Fourth of July celebration this year, and it was spectacular. The festivities started with foodstuffs and concerts at 4pm, and culminated in a fascinating 9pm fireworks show, which lasted nearly an hour! I must say, I’ve been to 5 City of Greenville fireworks shows in my short lifetime, and this one was by far the best. The city pulled out all the stops, and it truly showed. Great job, Greenville!

Grab a blanket, head uptown, and listen to the sounds of a full symphony orchestra under the direction of Maestro Jorge Richter this Sunday at the Town Commons. Here’s the generic information for this weekend:
Sunday in the Park, in its 31st Year, is a free concert series held in the Town Common at the Greenville Toyota Amphitheater held in June, July and August. The concerts begin at 7pm and last approximately 1 hour. In case of rain or inclement weather, the concert is normally cancelled. Bring a blanket or chair and come out for any evening of free entertainment for the whole family!
It’s going to be another hot one, though (92), so bring water!

Acasia’s Tipsy Teapot is one of my favorite hang-out spots in the Uptown area, and deservingly so. Their friendly, laid-back atmosphere, when combined with great tea, makes for a very relaxing place to either get work done or have a playful conversation. I recently asked a few questions of Delia Liuzza (owner of the Tipsy Teapot), and she responded kindly. Here are the questions, followed by her answers:
Acasia’s Tipsy Teapot opened on February 4th, 2005. We are a small
restaurant serving fresh food all made to order on premises. Along with a
regular menu, we have a large selection of vegetarian choices and several
vegan options as well. Many of our vegetables are local and/or organic.
We are also a used book store and have a variety of hard to find titles.
We are the only Tea Shop in Greenville, offering over 30 varieties of tea
including Boba (Bubble tea) and Yerba Mate. We also have some English
treats that are unavailable anywhere else in town. We have high teas,
birthday parties, and showers by reservation and brunch buffet every
Sunday.
We offer a comfotable, cosmopolitan dining/sitting area that is completely
unique. We have friendly, outgoing staff, healthy food, catering, and
wi-fi. All this is set in a book laden haven. We offer nostalgia. We offer
integrity. We offer humor. We offer sanity!
I hope that Uptown Greenville will attract other merchants and customers
that want more from life than just the bottom line. While we are all in
business to support ourselves and our families, owning a store in the
Uptown area is not about getting filthy rich. It is about a lifestyle that
is quickly dying out in modern America and needs to be salvaged. I hope
that, as people become more and more tired of the rat race and the malls,
they will find what they have been missing right here!
Our website is here: Acasia’s Tipsy Teapot
Check them out from 9am to 10pm during the week, 10am to 10pm on Saturday night, and wait later (but don’t stay later) on Sundays: they don’t open until 1pm and they close at 7pm. Thanks Tipsy!

We’re a “cool city”! Show your support 10am this coming Tuesday (July 10th) at the city hall, where Greenville will be named a cool city: which simply means that we have taken steps to reduce our impact on the global warming epidemic!
The streetscapes in the uptown area are going to look really sharp whenever they’re completed.
